Total Safety received the Houston Business Roundtable (HBR) gold award in the Technical Support Large category for the Lyondellbasell La Porte location. The HBR Safety Excellence Awards banquet took place on May 15 at the Moody Gardens Convention Center after an extensive six-month process.
The HBR award process involves hundreds of participants, starting with a nomination. Contractors must be nominated by their clients, making this award unique. There are no self-nominations.
Contractor work sites are nominated where the client holds verifiable safety performance data for the past calendar year. Nominated contractors are put into award categories based on the type of work they perform. Each nominee submits their OSHA required safety data regarding fatalities, lost workday cases, recordable injuries and illnesses, copies of their safety policies and procedures and documentation of their “best practices.”
After intensive evaluation and a successful field audit, Total Safety received the Gold level of recognition for Technical Support Large.
“These are very difficult to win. A client has to nominate you; HBR sends an audit team to your location. It’s a very thorough audit of processes, procedures, training documentation, and HBR auditors interviewed Total Safety employees that work at the LyondellBasell Bayport Facility” said Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Paul Tyree.
Since 1988, the Houston Business Roundtable has been recognizing Greater Houston Area Industrial Contractors for their outstanding safety performance. This award process over the years has brought many of the Owner Companies in the Gulf Coast together with their Contractors in a cooperative effort to improve on-site safety, eliminate accidents, and most importantly, reduce injuries to employees.
